No, you don't "need" to buy genuine LR Roof Rack Rails!!!!........

    Hi Guys

Heres our new Rhino-Rack Pioneer Platform (1528x1376mm) and ARB Awning (2 x 2.5mtr)

When I started looking at fitting an Awning to my car, I never realised the journey I was going to go through researching all this stuff, just so I could fit one to my car.

I was originally looking at putting some Genuine Extended Roof Rails on the car, purchased direct from Land Rover, as my 2015 Disco 4 SDV6 SE didn't come with any sort of rails, when delivered. Then I was going to buy some Roof Racks to fit the awning onto. But at $977aud just for genuine Land Rover Extended Roof Rails (not fitted)..... I decided to have a bit of a look around on what else I could get...... I found out that Rhino Rack did a Track System (similar to the LR one) for as little as $201 (they bolt up to the Factory Fitment points that are already in the roof). And if I wanted to, I could get the entire system (Rails and Racks) INCLUDING a Steel Mesh Roof Basket for $1115 Fitted....... when they told me the fitted price, I thought to myself "Yes, please!!!"..... as the Rails alone from LR were going to cost me $977 UNFITTED!!!

However, after some careful thought and planning (with the people from Roof Rack Superstore, Cannington WA) I ended up buying this Pioneer Platform with Roof Rails for $1276 fitted!!! (The ARB Awning and Rhino-Rack Awning Brackets were extra of course.... being $350 and $50 respectively). Going this way meant that I didn't need to try to rest a Basket on top of Roof Racks using U-Bolts, as the Pioneer Platform attaches directly to the Rhino-Rack Roof Rails. (using the Roof Rack leg attachments)

So if you are looking at a roof rack system..... Check out the prices on aftermarket equipment too!!! It can save you BIG $$$!!!

A HUGE THANKS GOES OUT TO THE PEOPLE AT "ROOF RACK SUPERSTORE", CANNINGTON W.Australia

Yep that's what I have, except I have a Foxwing on mine. I also like that they have the sorter legs so it stays as close to the roof as possible.

yep, I would have loved to have the Foxwing..... but I have to dismantle and remove the Awning and Platform when it's not being "used for adventuring" (i.e. during the week), as our Garage Door is too low to bring the car in with them on.

The Foxwing is very easy to remove, I take it off when I am not using, although I don't take the platform off. I also reversed the brackets on my Foxwing so it doesn't sit up in the air like that, there is still plenty of room to walk around under it when it is set up,and it doesn't get in the way of the doors opening or anything.

Is there much increased windnoise with that setup???
Im wanting a full size with the backbone mounts.
How much too tall is the vehicle????
The Llams system will allow lower than entry height.

I don't notice any wind noise from mine, but then I have a snorkel howling away beside my head so I probably wouldn't notice even if there was.

i have the same,it works well.

Agree, the foxing is just two bolts and it is off.

Autobarn have all the rhino gear, and most of it is generally in stock.they also have spare parts for the Foxwing, just in case a gust of wind gets under it and breaks something

The rhino rails are easy to fit to the D4 as well.

We just had it all installed last night and only really drove it home, but must say that I did not notice any extra sound in the cabin (and I was purposely listening for some).

Yer, the backbone mounts look good, but I couldn't get them, as I think they are a permanent fixture to the roof. (which was not good for us to get the car under the Garage Door)

I'm hoping!!! the car can get under the Garage Door just without the Awning on. (so I can leave the Platform on there).... I will probably fit in at "Access Height"...... but I don't trust myself on remembering to put it into "Access Height" each time we go into the Garage.

I'm going to check out the Llams system when I've got some money again. lol......... bearing in mind, that this is actually my wife's Daily Driver and not mine. LOL (so I gotta take it easy on the mods)

If you reverse the awning brackets then there is a good chance that if it goes in with the platform, it will also go in with the awning on.

Yep. I'm running a FrontRunner rack rather than a Rhino, but I have both reversed the awning mounting brackets ................. and mounted them underneath the roofrack.

My awning sits well below the top of the roofrack - and I find that in this position, it works better in foul weather as there is not that "gap" between the awning and the roof of the vehicle for the wind / rain to get in under. There is also less wind noise at highway speed with the awning mounted like this than there was when it was originally mounted higher.

If I do manage to hit anything getting into carparks etc (and I have done a few times when I was working down in Perth) - I hit the rack and not the awning. Fortunately, the FrontRunner rack is a solid bit of gear, and other than a few scrape marks on the top, I haven't damaged it yet.
    Cheers .........
