I had no Sat Nav either on our MY16 D4...... I just bought a Hema N7 instead

My car did come with the Rear Active E-Diff however, as that was a major thing I wanted to have.

The idea would be to look for an "in-stock" car with the options you REALLY want.... any other Options are just bonuses if you can get them (otherwise see if you can get aftermarket items of the same thing.... like my Hema N7) .

I got my Demo MY16 SDV6 SE for $85k driveaway with 3800kms (incl. Rear E-Diff, All Floor Mats, Rear Cargo Mat, Full Tank of Fuel and LR Teddy Bear for my 1yo son).

Was driving a new Evoque for a day in Perth a couple of weeks ago while my D4 was in for a service. First time I've used a LandRover OEM sat-nav as I had to get to a couple of places that I wasn't familiar with.

To be honest, I reckon the Hema HN7 I have in the Disco leaves the standard LandRover sat-nav for dead any day of the week. I guess to some extent, it depends on what you are used to, but I did not like the unit in the Evoque at all. I also have a Tom Tom I use in hire cars - and I prefer that to the one in the Evoque.

One of the annoying things that I have found with the "screen" in the D4 dash is that it is frequently subject to "sun glare" and I often cannot see the screen. Have often had to get SWMBO to hold something to cast a shadow on the screen if I'm looking through phone directory etc. I reckon that this would be bloody annoying if you were trying to find your way around using the sat nav on the same screen.

At least with the Hema, it is easy to mount the unit at a steeper angle such that sun glare is less of an issue - and then if you buy and fit the optional clip-on "sun visor", you can virtually eliminate sun glare under almost all conditions. I never have an issue with seeing the screen on the Hema.

I previously had a HN6 that has been in a couple of vehicles now - was also a good unit and no issues with sun glare. It gave up the ghost in Tassie earlier this year, so I replaced it with a new HN7 - the bigger screen has made a big difference.
    Cheers .........

Any pics of how you mounted the Hema unit up or do you just hang it as needed? I think this would suit me better than the OEM going by the feedback here. In fact I had a look at the reverse camera and it seems a bit unusual too. I'll have to get used to it being offset before I clean something up!

I'm satisfied that the spec level is adequate for my first disco and if it goes through the price will leave some scope to upgrade where I see the need.

Mine's mounted much the same, but a little further to the right. I've managed to tuck the power cord in to that joint between the dash surface and the instrument binnacle so that it is not seen.
    Cheers .........

I'm pretty happy with the cords being "hidden" enough...... but will get my mate to hard-wire the Hema and Dashcam directly to the power of the vehicle. (leaving the Cigarette Lighter sockets free for other stuff)

I would be interested to know if there is already factory wired power up top to hook into, may only need a fuse fitting for an option you dont have to power it up.Anybody been inside for a look see????

I haven't investigated but I did see a dash cam in that position on Disco3 wired to a glovebox piggyback fuse holder via the upper console, head lining and down the a-pillar trim. Very neat.
