Resale on D4 without Sat nav and diff lock

    G'day all,

I'm toying with the idea of picking up a 2nd hand disco 4 8spd and the local dealer just called me with a deal for an MY15 trade in they picked up. Price seems good but it doesn't have the nav or diff lock which I would prefer. Noting that this is not a need, but rather a preference. I tend to think that at $70k+ nav should be there but can possibly look past it if the deal is right. I don't have any real off road experience but do have aspirations of taking it off road so would rather know it was there in case I needed it but again I can't really say that it is a necessity.

The question I have is do you believe that this would effect resale significantly? I don't turn cars over too frequently so resale isn't the only factor but I'm probably better placed to worry about how the lack of these option will effect me (feel free to comment on that regardless). FWIW I put aftermarket nav in my wife's Q5 and its a pain to use really so I just use my phone instead but that's hardly an arrangement befitting of a $90k RRP car I guess.
    Appreciate your input.
    Cheers.

Neither would be a deal killer for me. The LR TR is supposed to be more than adequate for us occasional off-roaders.

The sat nav doesn't sound amazingly impressive. The advantage of a phone nav system is that it's regularly updated, unlike LR nav system.

I have an 08 RRV (has TR) without either and I haven't missed them. Off road it's been great. The phone bluetooth connects and so gives sat nav instructions through the car speakers. I'm happy with that. I do need to install a cradle though.

    I hope that helps.

    Agree with rar110 re nav.

Much discussion here previously about performance of TR in later models versus earlier models with ediff (rear locker). Expert opinion seems to be that later TR at a minimum closes gap between earlier models with the ediff fitted. Couldn't say what the exact % is of these with the ediff but I'd reckon not much more than 10% (happy to be corrected).

My MY14 without ediff has been very competent off road.

Option wise I'd be more worried about rear air conditioning.... I bought mine used without it and I do wish I had it.

When you say it doesn't have nav there are 2 configs in the D4. One is with the small screen and no nav

The other config has the larger screen and the nav button is not installed on screen but still on the dash. When you press it nothing happens (lol)

In the case of the second one there is an after market options that simply plugs in to the system for about $1800 including 12 months of upgrades that is actually better than the factory one. They enable the factory button and presto your in business.

As I almost got one of those I looked into it in depth. In the end the vehicle I went with had it installed but I know it exists in that instance

Have you priced a new one????
I would. You may be surprised especially if you take a low spec model.
I was looking at secondhand,at the time a 80 to 100000k SE was going to cost me 60 to 65K.
I paid 80K drive away with a host of extras,1% finance and a 5 year warranty.
Shop around, even if you have to fly out drive back to Darwin.

Rear aircon is good advice. I didn't know about the aftermarket big screen. Good to know.

Do they still have the smaller screen option?... I thought that was only prior to 2013.

So I would expect all 8 speeds to have the bigger screen.. but I have been wrong before

E diff, : unless your prospective buyer is seriously hard core should be no drama.

I can't see either impacting your resale value to any noticeable amount.

Mine has the big screen,it comes with the camera options,I have the reverse camera.Bloody good too compared to the one in our Territory.Love the squigly lines and trailer line up.

E diff,I wanted one, none available at the time.Gordon from GOE states the late D4s with no E diff out perform early D3/D4 E diff equipped vehicles due to improved programming of the terrain response and bigger brakes.
The E diff would be very desirable if you intend towing a big van,it has bigger axles and bearings Im lead to believe.

It turned out to be an my16 December 15 complianced SE. Definitely the bigger screen and they have rear view camera and 11.1stereo standard.
What exactly is rear air conditioning? Is it just vents in the second row on the back of the centre console? Or seperate controls?
Price seems good but it wasn't detailed and I found some small paint damage from bats on the roof, the black exterior trim seemed faded and the black roof runner was unclipped at the front but seemed to be able to clip back in. Not sure I'm keen enough to take a bargain that isn't 100%. Tend to lean toward paying the extra for what I want or waiting it out. Thanks for the responses.

It's a separate air con with it's own controls except that there is a switch on the front console to govern its operation. Off, same as front or independent operation using it's controls from memory.
