    Cubby cooler broken

    Hi guys

My cubby cooler is broken, doesn't switch on. There is power to it, but no fan spinning and no green light.

I had a fiddle with the circuit board and it seems like there is a relay there that switches on and off in rapid succession.

Any ideas? Has it happened to anyone else?

    Cheers

I don't have a cooler but it sounds like a loose connection or a broken or dry solder joint if it's on a circuit board. Sometimes components (e.g. Relays) that don't sit flush to the circuit board can break the solder joint on the pin passing through the board. It can be hard to find. Looking under a magnifying glass and bright light help.
    Good luck.

I had a similar issue with mine, cubby fridge relay was constantly clicking in and out.....turned out that battery voltage after starting was too low and the alternator was failing to keep up the necessary charge needed.
Couldn't really blame the alternator, as at the time I was also drawing out an additional 60 amps trialing a separate project.
Might be worth to 240v charge up your battery overnight, and see if that makes a difference.

Thanks guys. I suspect it is something on the circuit board. The voltage is OK, so must be something else. I was hoping someone might have had a similar problem.

Otherwise I might just wire the switch up to an ignition wire so I can turn it on directly if the car is on

    Cheers

I'm a little confused as to how this will help? If it has voltage already changing to a different wire wouldn't help would it?

Mine is connected directly to my second battery, and runs continuously when switched on, when I first installed it I saw the circuit board and assumed it must be a either a thermostatic controller or a low battery cutout switch but in my case it does neither. I'm now thinking it is current limiter that uses PWM (pulse width modulation) that turns on and off a switch (relay, mosfet, etc)

The actual "thing" that does the cooling is called a 'peltier' and the circuit diagram for driving them is pretty simple, do you have a close up photo of the circuit?

I just rewired it to bypass the circuit board and ran the wires straight to the switch.

It worked for a bit, then died.... so not sure what to do. I will keep looking....

I cooked one ( a peltier) last month doing much the same, I was just mucking about with it seeing what it could do and if I could control it with a motor speed controller.

One of the wires that goes into it fell out, I presume it over heated?
