Whats everyone do with their old control arms?

Just recently replaced my lower fronts on my last lot of days off (arms themselves would have been original as they had 2005 manufacture date stickers still on them - 220,000km - not sure if they have every been rebushed). A few months ago a I done the rear upper arms. For both occasions I just ordered replacement arms and I've kept the old arms. Idea being that next time they need to be done I'll rebush the arms for a cheaper fix. Got me thinking, whats everyone else do with their old arms and as anyone looked at doing a bit of an arm exchange to keep the replacement costs down a bit -providing new bushed can be obtained cheap enough. Plus it seems a big waste to throw out the complete arms when they could be rebushed and used again as there is normally nothing wrong with the arms themselves

Hi shane, were I get my arms done they use refurbished arms at a much cheaper price than the genuine ones. I let them get dirty plus they get the wheel alignment done as well

I am a diy guy too but some jobs I let the other guys do. Plenty of back operations etc so the lighter tasks suit me better.

    Hi shane.

I have knocking bushes and was thinking the same thing. I dont have a press so can't guarantee i will get the old bushes out or in. I have been quoted $1500 by the local rover mechanic to do the whole job, so pretty keen to do as much as i can myself.

I have priced up all the bushes and bolts at about $240+ delivery from Victoria. however as i might not be able to press the bushes out myself i need to have the car on stands for a weekday while a mechanic presses them out, so ive been looking at complete replacement arms (~$900 from Oz, less overseas).

But then what do i do with the old arms?

Maybe AULRO could have an arm swap policy where we pass on our old arms to the next guy to be rebushed and installed in their car?

    Cheers

When mine were done I asked for the old ones back and was told they were basically a throw away item. I disagree but didn't have an immediate use for them so let it go. Being the heavier duty ones they'd have been a handy upgrade for the right DIY person.

It has all the bits. I added up all the arms nuts and bolts and it came to $850 incl GST i think (+delivery)

They're the new style arms too, with a better ball joint.

    Cheers

I was looking at the arms front and rear whilst fitting my GOE wheels on the weekend.
I figured the setup would really lend itself for a stupid toy.Just need that powerball and I then can have all the time in the world.
Oh,the inspiration, something I saw on the net the mad Kiwis did years ago.Im thinking a perfect use for a wrecked V8 D3.
