    Quick question(s) on Brake Lights.

    Hi all,

I have a blown globe on my D3 and am looking to replace the conventional bulbs with LED.

From what i can tell only the top lights are used during braking, yet both are a double filament light. Are they two different globes? Or will a stop/tail light combo globe fit both?

Secondly, i only need to replace one bulb. I was going to replace the top globe in each cluster. Are the LED's much brighter than standard when the lights are on? I.e. when i have just the lights on are the top globes going to look a lot brighter to people behind me? Is there an issue running LED top and incandescent bottom?

    Cheers

    Dan

    Yep same bulbs.
No issue running the two different types top & bottom.
But don't be a tight ___ and replace the 4 with the LED ones.

    Quick question(s) on Brake Lights.

IIRC the bulb holders for the bottom ones are missing a contact so that the brake light filament is not activated, only tail light.

I reckon best to do all together Dan. Reverse LED really worth doing too.

    Thanks guys.

Scott, same connector for reverse lights?

Haha i just realised i could swap the top and bottom bulbs as the bottom ones dont need the extra filament.

Is that too tight for you rich?

    Cheers

I put some LEDs on my D2 and during that process I found out that you need to be careful about how bright the tail and brake lights are compared to original. If the tail light is too bright Mr Plod might get interested or the following car will think your driving with your foot on the brake. Another point was when one of the LEDs failed it was replaced by a standard bulb at service time which then gave uneven light. I suspect you'll need to get canbus compatible ones too but this is a little to techie for me.
