Whereis used to sell DVD's for the purpose (last price was $275, but no longer available). I understand sometime during 2010 Land Rover converted to a hard-disk drive unit and Dealer-only updates are possible.

Has anyone updated their HDD style Sat Nav as a DIY ?

I had a AUG 2009 build MY10 (first batch off the boat apparently) and it was dealer only update. I'm unsure if you are now able to update via disc but you certainly couldn't in the earlier models.

Umm, still works fine for MY2012 and onward via the purchasable DVD. Recently updated my MY2015 without issue.

My guess is that the latest version for prior vehicles will require a firmware upgrade and a trip (and probably cost) back to a dealer to do. A Garmin/Navman/TomTom may be a cheaper, and probably better option. I have not been overly impressed with the LR Nav system supplied here - very basic. No speed limits displayed, frequently takes incorrect routes, no traffic info available (needs license LR are obviously not prepared to pay) etc etc.

not displaying the speed limits kills me..

I specifically wanted the D4 with the larger screen but had i known how bad the GPS was I would have been happy to settle for the non sat nav version and buy a garmin.

Good to know the upgrade doesn't have limits either, you just saved me a few $$. thank you.

I too am really disappointed with D4 Nav system.
No speed limits, etc, it's very basic.
Coming from a late model commodore, you notice the difference.

I saved $3000 when I got my D4,wasnt interested in a poor system that couldnt match my TomTom.He died so Im now sans nav,he can be replaced for less than $200!!!!

No need for Tom ... My iphone tells me when I walk out the door in the morning how long it'll take me to get to the office including traffic conditions - and that's the locked phone without any interaction from me - simply leaving the house with it in my pocket and up pops the update not sure if I like this level of integration with my phone
