    thx for the replies, just about to head to the shed to start this, think i will take the seal out and fit it later, let you know how it goes

    well pump in , you guys were right can't fit the pump with the seal in place, just no way of lining it up , even without the seal in and no locator plastic thing it took ages to get it lined up using mirrors is always hard, this is where the pump came from and suggest to anyone about to buy a pump that it has the locator ring.
    any way all back together no leaks and a bit of peace of mind thats its done, thx for your help..

    I would suggest that ebay seller is selling off take off pumps or ones that have been maybe rejected/recalled after fitting to assembly line engines IE non started engines.
