Looks like it could be a costly excersise.I have always thought it might be the steering rack/ assembly. Might as the boys about it when it in for service in a few weeks.
Document attached for anyone that needs it.
Actually, as it's a copyright document, I've removed the attachment. If you want it, send me a PM.

Looking at the parts list, and the methodology, I'd agree. However, I'd be pretty sure in saying that there's a number of parts listed for changing, that seem to be a little over cautious.

SubscriberI have the same thing that has only happened recently, but I know my LCA bushes are in need of replacement, so that's my first stop. It's getting worse as time goes on, so now it is just finding the time to pull it apart and replace them, then wheel alignment.

Me too Stuart, the 2 big ticket things for me to replace now would be the steering wheel and and the rack itself. That along is near $2k. Think I'll live with it for a bit longer while I get the timing belts done and trans serviced.

SubscriberIronically we had to swap out the rack on our previous car, a Volvo XC70 (only 70000 kms though) and it cost around the $2k mark. That was clearly stuffed though. It's an expensive punt in this case.
It'll have to wait on the RRS for us too :/
What's the steering wheel got to do with it all, anyway, does anyone know? Is it the column as well?

SubscriberGetting the LCAs replaced improved the problem in my car but I think essentially masked the underlying issue. With my time again I'd be tempted to sort it out before subjecting fresh bushes to the vibration.
My mechanic is adamant it's not the steering rack cos there's no discernible play. He wants to look at the drive shafts.
Has anyone had an experience with unbalanced shafts? I can feel it through the wheel but through the whole car too. It's maybe more noticeable when the right side is loaded up but not a lot.
I think it's actually contributing to the kids getting car sick. :/
