Take your rear lights off, then have a look whether a gap is made between the seal and inside of the tailgate when you move the tailgate in and out. And also, lookup the rain channel see if the two sides of the wedge are contacting each other correctly.

Fresh will help keep the interior pressurised,keep the fan as high as you can tolerate noise wise.
In the D4 you have to beg the thing to recirculate your farts,modern vehicles are fairly air tight which can cause oxygen depletion on long drives.

I see your point but I've put 100,000 kms on the car since I bought it and have driven plenty of dirt roads ( we get out as much as we can ) with ricirc on and off and it has never done this before. You could actually see dirt/ dust along the plastic trim on top of the bottom part of the tailgate where the button is to release the lower gate.

I have lived on dirt roads for more than half my life, so have done a few km on them too

The thing you noted was this time you had a camper attached - this more than likely created a nice low pressure area behind your window allowing the dust to collect before coming in through any seals that would otherwise be pressurised with the fresh air on.
