    Front Sensors / Front Camera

    Hi All,

Long time lurker, first time poster. I have finally convinced SWMBO to let me purchase a D4. Will be looking for a low KM 2015 unit which obviously means whatever options the previous owner has speced it up with is what I get.

We currently have a small suv and the above mentioned SWMBO is highly reliant on the front parking sensors (buggered if I know why, if you don't know where the front of the car is I think you have bigger problems however this line of argument is hazardous to the health). She has decreed that the new car must have these also.

I plan on fitting either an OL or ARB bullbar. Does anyone know if it is possible / practical to retrofit front sensors 1) to a D4 that didn't come with them from the factory and 2) if they can be fitted into a bullbar? I had thought that some sort of front facing camera may be easier?

    Appreciate any help/ thoughts!

    Welcome bigStu!

I'm pretty sure all the OL bars have holes for front cameras and parking sensors. I know the one on my MY11 does and I have front sensors - but it is a different design to the MY14+ ones.

    Maybe ring OL and ask?
    Cheers,
    Rob

Yes, it is very possible to retrofit the front sensors to a vehicle that didn't originally come with them, the loom and parts is not that expensive at all. The vehicle's CCF will need editing to activate them, which you can do yourself with an IIDTool, or similar.

Thanks very much, good to know. I'll add that to the laundry list of plans I have made after scrolling through AULRO for too long!

dave, does that apply for a 2011 too?

would they just activate on the same loop as the rear sensors?

on a side note- do they make a different chime to the rear ones?

    maybe my next job...

    Exactly the same Luke!

They use the same circuit as the rear sensors, you'll just need the extra loom to connect them to the connector below the right hand headlamp.

    The parts list you'd need
4 sensors (Valeo OEM sensors are dirt cheap)
    2 centre retainers
    2 RH/LH retainers
    1 loom
    4 rubber grommets
(If you want the part numbers, just shout as I've got them listed somewhere)

Same chime though. But you should know whether you're going forwards or backwards.

Thanks Dave, sounds very achievable.. How much is dirt cheap?

No rush but when you're free can you send me the part numbers? Just as I started to think I was nearing the end of my upgrades!!

Is it really the same chime?

I have both front and rear sensors factory fitted, the chime may be the same but I think they are from different speakers, one front one rear?

Have to check in the morning.

My HSE MY13 has different sounds for front and rear sensors. The front is high pitched and the rear is more low pitched. It's not a huge difference but you can hear it if you pay attention.

I'm going to have listen hard now. I've always thought it was the same tone.
