But the 5.0 V8 D4 definitely did use the 6HP28X.

SZ TDCI AWD Titanium would be my pick. You could even share a few parts and oil.

My brother had a RWD TDCi Titanium a couple of years ago. I drove it to Lakes Entrance and back. Without the lard of the D3/D4, they go really well. Economy was great too (6.8L/100km for that trip, not driving for economy!).
