Question Territory v6 Diesel engine/Gear Box

Hello! From a new Boy on the Block
I would like to know from " The Brains Trust" and from what I can see are very knowledgable members and subscribers - and am astounded by the wealth and knowledge a lot of you contribute - Great Work...!!!
Would dearly appreciate your expert views on the following
I have noticed recently that they are a few D3 for sale either with very high mileage or faulty gearbox's
I know a few articles exist re fitting the Territory Engines to the D3
Some successfully after a few teething problems
But no definitive engine numbers/ series that will fit were mentioned ( I remain to be corrected)
And cannot find anything re Territory Gearbox's that will fit
I ask as I have been looking for a Discovery 2a but see some bargains for D3 vehicles and am all ways after a bargain (famous last words)
Is it feasible to fit the above and in your view would it be cost effective I know it depends on the selling price
I was thinking of used parts to save money as I would have to take out a Mortgage - or rob a Bank for original parts and labour charges
Your expert views would be greatly appreciated
    Thanking You Ladies and Gentlemen

    In simple terms, 2005 & 2006 D3 = EU3 emission standards. 2007 - 2009 D3 = EU4 emission standards which are the same as the Ford Territory.

Therefore a Territory engine into an '07 onward D3 is the easiest/cheapest to perform. Due to having to swap all the engine ancillaries it is not really cost/time effective to put a Territory engine into an 05 or 06 D3.

I am not aware of swaps of transmissions but the regularly quoted figure to allow for a replacement transmission is up to $7,000. The most recent reference to a price I have seen is here:

The 6R80 transmission from a Territory is a fair way from a drop in replacement for the 6HP26. Even though it is in theory a 6HP26 built under license by Ford, it has enough differences to make it tricky.

Gday and welcome to the forum .

My understanding is there were several Fords built with the 6HP26, think the XR6 was one of them.

A search of a Ford wrecker may see you come up with a cheaper replacement , but I am unsure if they are a straight bolt in or if they need adapting.

The biggest issue seems to stem from the gearbox oil not being changed due to the thought they were sealed for life. People are now realising that the oil needs to be changed at approx. 50 - 70,000 km intervals.

The 6HP26 used in the Falcons and Territory was a different variant Ean. A RWD only box, with a different bellhousing for the straight 6 engine.

    Thumbs up

    Hi!
To all of you who have posted replay's a very BIG thank You...!!!
From what I have absorbed its not worth the hassel to fit the Territory Engine and Gearbox to the D3 series even though they are basically the same engine but with serious differences
So I am just going to find a nice 2a 2003 -2004 Disco and sure I will be very happy
Got the Landrover "bug" a long while ago and cannot wait until I get my first Landy TD5 Automatic ( to old at 70 to mess around with a manual)
As I live on the beautiful Sunshine Coast I think I will be pointing it first thing North towards Fraser Island and trying avoiding as much Salt Water as possible
Many Thanks to all for your valuable Input
    Very Much Appreciated

I believe it's a variant of the RWD 6HP26. The transmission as used in D3/D4/RRS/FFRR and a couple of Beemers with an external transfer box was officially designated 6HP26X.

**EDIT** the first bit is wrong. The SY Territory Turbo does have the 6HP26X, the standard AWD does not

Hmm... I thought the 6HP26X was only installed on the V8 D3?
