Enabling full GPS use when driving

    Hi all,

Has anyone modified their head unit to allow you to enter an address into the standard GPS system when driving?

I understand why this function is there and i cant stand it because it eliminates passengers entering an address when driving.

I had this same function in my last car which was a Subaru Liberty. I managed to pull the head unit out and earthed one of the wires so the unit thinks the car is always at a stand still. Worked a treat for 5 years and gave us full access of the system when driving.

Anyone done this in the disco?

    thanks.
    Moe

Don't know about physical mods to the head unit but 'Nov on the Move' can be enabled for some models using GAP's IID tool. Maybe your lucky and have one of the earlier models this can be done on.

Which Disco do you have? It's possible with a software update for D3s, but not for some of the D4s.

I would suggest yes it's worth it particularly if you are considering program changes such as the satnav & windows.
But the other major benefit is fault reading and clearing. This can be very helpful when troubleshooting any issues/problems.

A couple of other threads that may be worth reading:

    IIDTool definitely a worthwhile investment.

And unfortunately, 2010 onwards vehicles cannot have the sat nav on the move function enabled.

I have the 2010 sat nav, and I'm assured by the Nanocom folk that all I have to do is enable Nav on the Move in the Car Configuration File (CCF). Hasn't worked though and haven't as yet been offered a possible resolution.
The D3s require an additional software rewrite as well as the CCF change...

Can't speak for Nanocom but simply enabling 'Nav on the Move' in the CCF won't work with the IID tool either.

Getting it functional is a 3 step process. Aside from just altering the CCF file, firmware in the Nav unit must also be rewritten as well. The whole process is said to take ~1hour.

The new Nav firmware is supplied by GAP in a special firmware pack loaded on the IID tool. Don't know if this firmware is something they have done themselves or just firmware sourced somehow from LR.

Edit: I should of course add this applies to early models. It's not possible to update the Nav firmware on later models according to GAP because the Nav module involved on later models can't be communicated with via OBD.

In the case of Nanocom I suspect the new Nav firmware has to be reflashed (some how) first and then 'Nav on the Move' enabled but I'm only speculating about this.

Changing the CCF setting is not sufficient. Please refer to the IIDTool user manual for additional instructions.

    2010 and up vehicles
Enabling destination while on the move cannot be done with a diagnostic tool.
