    Insurance recommendations

    Hi Guys,
I've just moved to Melbourne from the UK. Our Discovery 4 is on the boat and due in October some time. Please could I ask for recommendations for insurance companies so that I can start getting a few quotes.
    Thanks in advance,
    Andy

    Hi Andy,

Welcome to the best city in the world.

I have been using Budget Direct and have found them to be excellent and had no problems when the missus did some damage to her car. You should think about joining the club I am in, Land Rover Club of Victoria (LROCV) for social interaction with other Disco owners.

I have 7 vehicles insured with Shannons, I got very good rates. Maximum discount. I have tried others ,but Shannons give agreed value not market value and don't depreciate the agreed value every year like others do. Some give you agreed value then sneak in the market value a couple of years later. You can also pay by the month for no extra cost. Other insurance companies might charge a fee for this.
The advantage of paying monthly is that you don't have to fork out big $ at the start, so it you decide after a couple of months you decide to go elsewhere or cancel you haven't outlaid all they money up front.
    Your choice of repairer also.
They offer 1 free windscreen or rear or side glass per year. I asked if that included my Range Rover heated window with rain sensors which is around $2000 and they said if that is what it has then it is covered for a free windscreen a year.

Some say Shannons is dear? I found them very cheap compared to others. It depends on your driving record and other circumstances as to what you pay.

I have been using Shannons for years now they are probably one of the best . I would recommend them and the price is fair . Budget direct not too bad I use them fair bit as well and made 2 claim on it one was my fault one was not and in both incident the pay out was resonantly quick how ever please read they pds as there are few thing they don't cover especially u choice certain age options.

I don't think they are under the Suncorp umbrella, I did ask and was told but I cant remember who underwrights them.
i had a couple of no claim accidents where some one ran into my rear. I rang Shannons they told me to go to a repairer of my choice and asked it I was happy to have them do the repairs and just ok'd it, it was all too easy. no jumping through hoops with them.

Some seem to think they are part of Suncorp.

We insure our vehicles through our health insurance company who are underwritten by a large intermediary-based company. Have only had to claim windscreens through them but they have been good and easy to deal with. They offer an agreed value product which is what I prefer.
