    Hi

You can retrofit paddle shifts on any Discovery 4/LR4 fitted with the 6-speed transmission and any of the following engines:
    -3.0L SDV6
    -3.0L TDV6
    -Petrol engines

It requires a special modified transmission firmware only available from us via the fast lane service (25 GBP). Land Rover never intended to fit flappy paddles on vehicles with these engines and transmission combinations which is why we had to modify the firmwares to enable the feature. Available for all IIDTool versions.

The 2.7L TDV6 equipped vehicles cannot have them retrofitted.

    Cheers

I fitted to my 3.0 an external version of flappy paddles using a wireless remote stuck to the side of the steering wheel to operate relays to cause the up-shift or down-shift gearbox signal wires running from the shift selector to the TCM in the gearbox to be grounded. The relays fed trigger signals to a microprocessor to do the grounding to ensure that maximum "on" times weren't exceeded and to prevent switch bounce or multiple requests within too short a time, features normally provided by the gear selector module that if allowed to occur caused all manual control (S/M, +/-) from the gear lever to become unavailable until a restart. The TCM s/w was unmodified so might have also worked with 2.7.

And I use it almost on a daily basis so as to not be doing almost 2000 rpm at 50km/h - it is great being able to tell it to up-shift without having to drive in sports/full manual mode.

Babs, not sure if it is the same on the Disco but on the RRS you can lock out the paddles when not in sport mode. If so, it might save you some frustration.

Check under the "Vehicle Setup" menu. If it's available it will be somewhere under that.

To access the main menu in the Instrument panel

    1. Press the <OK> button on the steering wheel control.
    2. Use the direction controls to move through the menu and subsequent options.
    3. Press <OK> to confirm your selections.
    Cheers,

I did email GAP and got the same reply as above. I now have to purchase an IID Tool and my next question is what is the best way to get hold of the flappy paddles. Which models will fit. I presume a L320 RRS or should I be looking at 2013 on Discovery 4s?

Doesn't your RRS have a stick-shift as well?
