    D4 MY13 - no trailer lights

hi all. I've read thru various threads and am still confused... I have an MY13 D4 and we've never been able to get trailer lights to work. At all. Today my hubby completely rewired the trailer and put NON LED lights back on it, and a new flat plug and using a normal flat to round adapter (which works fine on a different vehicle), the D4 will not recognise there is a trailer attached. No dash icon, and no lights on the trailer.

The trailer works fine with his 2003 Defender and his work vehicle (2015 Commodore) So... question is... could there be a problem with the plug or wiring on the D4?? We are using the round black one on the D4. Given the trailer has incandescent globes, we shouldn't need an adapter like the one from Linear Electronics right?

    Any help appreciated!

I would be testing the plug on the D4 with a test light or multimeter to see if there is any power at the pins when there should be.

Note that the plugs are rotated 90 degrees from what's shown in the picture but the pin allocations are correct.

Yes you need to check that the plug has power in the appropriate pins. Simple to check with a multimeter or a testing light. From your description my money is on a problem internal to the D4. Has it ever worked? Is it connected in to the rest of the vehicle?

    I have a MY13 D4 also.

You may have the same problem that I did. The loom from the connector in the LH wheel arch to the 2 sockets was missing completely. Check that you have power to any of the pins in the black and white sockets. Could be the same problem. Maybe it was a Monday when both our cars were made. Fixed under warranty.

    Angry Rear trailer socket woes

    Hi,
Have a MY 2010 D4, I haven't checked my outlets for power availability but am curious (also confused, after reading all trailer sockets and power posts) does the normal Socket 12 N allow an adapter to work to a standard 7 flat or does it need to be rewired to suit a standard 7 flat??
Is that all that is required or does it need to be rewired?
    Any ideas appreciated!
    Thanks

Not the same. Compare diagram in post above to that below from Narva website.

I bought an adapter from SCA (from memory). Not expensive. You only need it for the one socket as the other is for a caravan connection I believe. I use that one to charge the battery as there is a direct line to the battery in the caravan socket. Sorry I can't remember which one is which but the caravan is the white one.

Just a quick update. Purchased and adapter from SCA. Have electric brakes on trailer and LEDS. Everything worked a treat! All lights, indicators, electric brakes etc. No recognition by car that trailer was attached. But got me out of trouble. Used the RHS plug to 7 pin flat.

No.. it's never worked. I also reckon it's a problem with the D4... will be testing a friend non LED trailer (just to be extra sure) and then get the auto elec to take a look.

Great you got your issue sorted, but our trailer doesn't have LED lights, so an adapter isn't going to fix the problem!!
