    D4 Air Compressor

Just wondering how often the air compressor should come on when not changing ride height on my D4.

When I'm just driving around town, I don't change the ride height but I find the compressor comes on say every second morning on start up. Is this normal or does it mean there maybe a leak ? Should compressor only come on when changing heights ?

The suspension is constantly adjusting to keep the ride height level, so eventually it will need to replenish the reservoir.

OK Thanks guys. Just didn't want the compressor wearing out prematurely. Nothing to panic about

When I bought mine they said to use the lock icon if parking for prolonged periods to stop the suspension self levelling.
Ive never done it,yes my compressor runs most times I start it if parked for some time.

The lock function only sets a higher maximum speed to allow faster driving at access height in underground car-parks before automatically raising to normal height - it does not lock the suspension in any way.

Changes in temperature whilst parked will cause the suspension to eventually lower until it gets to a minimum height.

Oh, it will wear out prematurely, don't worry about that. I'm up for a $2000 new one after 40 months. That's $50 a month air compressor expenses. Or $1 every 30kms. The dealer is contacting LRA to see if they reduce the fee. One would hope so.

If LRA don't come to the party, $2000 is way too much. My replacement AMK was around the $700 delivered from the UK (can find exact price if you need), and it is less than 1 hours work (got mine done in under 30 mins).

I have since changed my compressor filter to a replaceable paper filter as my AMK compressor's cylinder wall was visibly scored by debris as the OE sponge and felt filter does not seal as well as it should.

That was my concern the compressor would wear out prematurely before the warranty ran out and I would be left with the cost to replace ( and argument with LRA to help with cost ).

I took up the additional 2 year LRA warranty when I bought the vehicle new from the dealer . Would a new compressor be covered under the extended 2 year warranty, or would LRA say its normal wear and tear ( or serviceable item ) , and not honour the warranty ? Any thoughts ?

Original compressor on mine was replaced at first service with an AMK..

It gets a hiding... and 4 years later is going fine...

You're worrying about something that has no correlation to age or use..
