Trouble fitting seat cover to D4 driver seat

Hi All. I have a set of (airbag compliant) sheepskin seat covers which I'm in the process of fitting to the front seats of my D4. When fitting, there are four straps which I need to feed through the gap between the squab and the back rest. These clip to longer straps which come back from the front of the squab and another set which come down the rear of the back rest. I've fitted these covers on previous cars with no trouble. Even a D3.

On the passenger side, I had no trouble. But on the driver's seat I cannot feed the four straps through as there are two metal rods which seal the gap.

Now, I can see from searching the forum, lots of you have seat covers fitted. My question is are there other seat covers which do not need to be secured in this manner?

I may be just tired and cant see the obvious.

Try adjusting the lumbar support,it may be closing the gap up.

Make sure your seats lowered too, (squab), this may not be helping either if you have it raised for driving.

As an aside Pete (?), where'd you get your sheep skins from?

Hi Chops, I purchased mine from Prestige in WA following the recommendation of several others on the forum. Not cheap, but excellent seat covers and fantastic service from Prestige.

They even do a very nice LR Logo embroided into the covers.

They look good but I suffer from a horrid rash on the back of the legs from wool.
I will look at their other materials though as the leather seats may get real hot during the Summer.

    Hi Chops,

I bought our sheep Skin covers from Mini Jumbuck in Narracorte South Australia. (1800 088 834) This was in 2010. They were $500 for the pair plus $10 shipping. They have a really plush wool pile and are fully lined inside so no chaffing on the leather seats.

I've just had a look at their website and there is no mention of car seat covers as a standard line. It may be worth giving them a call to see if they still sell them.

I just picked up some custom fit D4 canvas ones on Saturday. Will let you know how they go... Mostly for up north trips though.

Waterproof, soft feel.. I only have them on the back seats for the dogs.

I have the sheepskin covers from Prestige in Perth in my D4 as well. They fitted them for me, but I was standing next to the car while the covers were being fitted, and don't remember them having any difficulty with the installation. Turned out to be a wise move for me, as I learned how to remove the rear head rests that day - up until then I didn't have a bloody clue how to get them out.

Bloody good quality covers - I also had sheepskin covers from Prestige in the front of the D2, and as far as I am aware, they are still in it and still in good condition.
    Cheers .........
