My understanding of the limit is that it is due to the effect the weight will have on the COG and how that will affect the stability of the vehicle rather than any concerns about the strength of the roof. These are the same reasons why off road height is restricted to 50kmh.
Having seen a D3 with an extremely large tree on it's roof I believe the roof could handle a lot more than 80kg.

    Spot on.

Having used my D4 and its air suspension, with a FrontRunner full length roofrack and a few milk crates to lift an extremely heavy roller door down off its mounting brackets, replace the electric motor and gearbox, and then lift the complete assembly back up onto its mounting brackets - I can guarantee you that the roof can handle a hell of a lot more than 80kg.
    Cheers .........

No damage to the vehicle's roof at all.

Only a bit of minor scratching of the paintwork on the roof rack.
    Cheers .........
