I got given a RR Evoque as a loaner for 3 days from ULR Malvern, Victoria. I didn't like it at all. The visibility is atrocious compared to the D4. The ride is very harsh and it had a terrible flat spot off idle. It definitely used less fuel than my V8 so it had something going for it. Not a lot of room inside either compared to a Mazda 3. They look great but I was so glad to get my D4 back.

You don't realise how big modern door mirrors are until they're sitting at eye level.

As good as the D3 and D4 are, the command drivers position is not the same as your D2 and it's one thing I missed about the D2.
As for Evoque and Disco Sport, they have lost it completely. They are just like driving cars. Of course with the Defender I now have it in spades.
Cheers,
Jon
Even in the ladies land rover groups the consensus is that most would rather walk than drive an evoque. After having been given one as a loan car in the past I've opted to take public transport instead when having my car serviced or repaired.

Don't get me wrong, I think they are nice for what they are too and the Ingenium engines will make them better to drive. The 2.0l diesel engine works well in the XE Jag - not quite the grunt of an XR6 turbo though.
My comment about losing it completely was only in reference to the command driving position. Even in the D3/D4 which is much more car-like than the D2, you are in no doubt you are driving a Land Rover. The Disco Sport is a more generic drive - if it wasn't for the green badges you could be driving anything.
I hope the D5 doesn't lose that feeling.
As an aside, what I have been impressed with is the F-Pace. Bit of a pointless vehicle as most SUVs are, but drives very nicely and the SDV6 in a lightweight aluminium body goes like the proverbial off a shiny shovel.
Cheers,
Jon
Last time the D4 was serviced, we were supplied with an Evoque for the day. The time before that - a Disco Sport. Previous to that - was usually a Freelander 2.
I'd take the Disco Sport or the Freelander 2 over an Evoque any day of the week thanks.
Cheers .........

My biggest concern was the $2000 excess on the insurance and I couldn't see anything around me not to mention Melbourne drivers.
