    Dead battery!

Murphy's law at it again. Supposed to get on the road to go to Perth today and the disco's battery is dead!Anyway I put it on charge and it may end up a non stop trip (1400km). Any decent places in Perth to pickup a new one that have them in stock?

Batteries can sometimes die suddenly when the sediment from the sacrificial plates ( Anodes ), builds up to and shorts out the Cels.
If you carefully and slowly drain the acid into a clean container, flush out the Cels and replace the acid, you might be able to get a charge into it. All it will cost is the clothes you're wearing. They always seem to come out of the wash full of holes, no matter how careful you are.
Of course the best option is to go to Town and get a new one.
    Cheers, Billy.

Be careful - batteries are filters for modern vehicles - if a cell has gone you may not make it regardless.

Fully sealed battery so thats not really an option.

Gonna have to risk the run as I can't get a battery locally either way

Make sure your Roadside is up to date just in case

If it drops the ECU will freak and may shut down

Might not end up going anywhere at this rate as with a few hours charge I can't start the car on the current battery anyway.

Is there any tests I can do with out the car running to eliminate the alternator as the cause?

Thanks Tombie. I didn't consider that. Still living in ancient times, at least when it comes to Electricery.

Well done a basic load test on my old cranking battery with a spare 55w bulb. Volts dropped of very quickly so looks like the battery is dead. After saying I wouldn't be able to get a battery locally, looks like I'm kinda wrong there. Couldn't get the exact same MF88H (supercharge) battery, but they did have a center din85l. Same physical size just not as tall and 780cca vs the supercharge 880cca. It'll do for now and gets me to perth where I might pick up the slightly bigger battery - thoughts? Really needed or would this one do you think?

    Shane,
I take it you do not have a second battery fitted? Easy to reconfigure the cabling to use this instead of your existing starting.
