ZF were doing a deal last year for $6000 for a full rebuild. It may not need that. I would get it done by ZF if it needs doing. Take it to a LR specialist, not a dealer.
I got my trans fully rebuilt (mechatronics, valve block, torque converter) for around $7500. Not all the work needed doing however as the box needed to be pretty much stripped down anyway, I decided to put the extra bucks in to a full rebuild. Dealer I bought the car from paid for some, extended warranty some and I paid the rest. Dantrans in Bankstown, Sydney did the work. He knows Landys and ZF's well. Good luck with it.

I'd second the referral to A&B in Dandenong South. Grant is a delightful bloke, helpful and straight down the line and as mentioned they are ZF specialists.
Organize the rebuild with him.
Good luck

anybody reccomend a good ZF specialist in Brisbane?
I have had the steel pan done and has had regular services / doyuble flushes done but the D3 now has 220,900 km on it so at some stage I am thinking it will need doing.
Interestingly last 2 times I have been on the beach with it and it was under load I got HDC fault and it wint into limp mode. Cleared it stright away by the old lock / unlock 3 times trick.
Have replaced the brake light switch and will also be getting genuine LR brake light globes as have read both can cause these issues.
Or it could be the trans getting long in the tooth.
cheers
Peter
Will do. Cheers

By all accounts I've read the 6HP26 is a very good transmission. But ZF told me they can need a rebuild at 100,000 km or 400,000km. I have seen a early D3 still going strong with 340,000km and never had a trans service.
Mine had a service every 100,000km and was still going strong at 240,000 until the output spline stripped as probably no grease had been applied when assembled.
Western Suburbs Transmissions at Rocklea have had some good feedback on here and by my own mechanic. Maybe get them a call.

Thanks for replies. At this stage it is still going quite well and I will temper my driver on the beach so I do't put it under too much stress. Low range and use auto which a few have recommended to me.
Think it is due for a trans service in about 40 or 50 thou but need to check my invoices for last time it was done. Oct 2013 rings a bell perhaps about 170,000km on the clock then and now is about 221,000km.
I'm rather pleased with it actually.
