    oil pouring from front crank

need some thoughts on this issue, I replaced the timing belt and oil pump about 6 months ago , no problem till today, drove about 7 klm and all the oil poured out through the front crankshaft seal, i put in 4 ltrs oil in and drove it home, pulled it all down and the oil is pouring out so fast , engine is running fine , anyone had this before , when i fitted the seal it went in well , just a case of putting in a new seal or could there be other issues, any info useful thx Pete

The seals have been known to work their way out.

Known fault and acknowledged by LR. I understand the fix is a newly designed seal seat that is not as finely finished to help the seal to remain in place. In many cases this end up in a big end failure after the engine is run without oil for some time. This is however different to the big end bearing failure more commonly diagnosed.
There is a new design housing that should be ordered, obviously along with a new seal.
You're very lucky indeed to not lunch the engine.

I wouldn't be driving it any futher.
It will empty the sump and destroy the engine.
Needs a flat top ride to the repairer.

Some people have used bearing retainer on the (new) seal to make sure that it doesn't walk.
