    HEMA HX-1 - dammit!

Does anybody here have one of these? I used mine for the first time today, for a trip from Perth to Bunbury, using the Drive mode (on-road street maps) and for the life of me, the silly thing will NOT cancel navigation. All the way back to Perth, it was telling me to turn around and go back to the address in Bunbury. No matter whether I hit OK or Cancel, it still goes back to the same thing. Clues anyone?

Just googled the manual which is apparently what you see when you press the help button. All I could see was to reboot it and put it into silent mode... sorry. No results for cancel navigation. Can understand why it would drive you nuts.

Post the answer when you find out. I'm curious now.

I have the HX7 and had the same problem.
To fix it I just put in a new destination and when I got there the navigation will stoped, I hope this helps.

I have the top of the pay Hema app on an android tablet.
Not had much joy out of it.
When it fails you have to wipe it and download again.Cost me plenty in data when I went to Exmouth, must have re-installed at least 10 times via the mobile phone Works great when its working!!!

It's a pretty counter-intuitive piece of gear Martin. When you touch the H logo on the bottom right, it asks if you'd like to cancel navigation. This doesn't actually mean cancel the current route, it means do you want to dive out of the on-road navigation and out to the home screen where you get to choose between on road and off road navigation. To cancel navigation to the address you've pre programmed, you have to touch the three horizontal bars on the bottom left of the screen, I've discovered that to cancel navigation you have to go into the menu bars at the bottom left of the screen, then 'delete route'. Phew.

And, on my boat I always navigate 'north up', so I can tell roughly which compass heading I'm on, just be glancing at the screen. On the Hema, cannot for the life of me figure out how to program it to north up. So no matter which way I'm driving, the car is always pointing up. Frustrating.

Yeah Andrew I too have the Hema Explorer app on my phone, which was fine last trip but the screen is too small to be of much use when travelling at 100+, and it won't move with the car, so I bought the full biscuit to get a bigger screen. It's pretty buggy from what I can tell. A bit clunky. I 'think' I can get it to hold north up, will try it again tomorrow.

My mate has had his for m3mths now and on our recent trip it started playing up. It won't charge via the 12v lead. You wiggle the the lead a bit it it was a hit and miss as to whether it would change or not. He's dropped off back at Hema to fix it as it looks like it might be a broken connection inside the unit. We had been over some rough country and we were wondering if that had anything to do with it....
Not if anyone else has driven over corrugated roads for hours before and has any troubles as well but would like to hear of it if u have....

I have both HN6 and HN7. The HN6 started playing up (losing satellite signal) last time we were in Tassie, and a business in the centre of Hobart was advertising a very good deal on the HN7, so I bought one. Have since fixed the HN6 by re-loading / updating the software.

Other than that, have never had any issues at all with them. Both do exactly what I want.

Neither runs "north up" in street navigation mode - but I don't want them to run that way either, so have never looked to see if it is possible. I like the fact that the direction of travel is always "up" the screen, so that you can instantly see what is coming up ahead .................. ie. left turn / right turn etc. I would imagine that street navigation with the device operating "north up" would be a pain in the arse.

When in offroad / country navigation mode though (using the Hema maps) - the default operating mode is "north up", which makes sense for this type of map.

Also have a VMS device sitting around somewhere. I gave it to the young bloke ages ago and he had it in the D2. Now that he has his Amarok with factory sat-nav, he doesn't need the VMS any more. Have a reversing camera to go with the VMS, but have never installed it (still sitting in its box in my shed). At the time of buying the VMS, I liked it because it was a 7 inch screen and was larger than the HN6 that was the biggest Hema unit available at the time (and they were doing good deals on them at 4WD / camping shows and through a certain 4WD magazine which has since gone to ****). Since the HN7 was released though, this "advantage" disappeared. Other than the screen size at the time - the VMS is nowhere near as good a unit as either of the Hema units - I wouldn't recommend one to anyone.
    Cheers .........

I know it's too late for those that have purchased a dedicated navigation system, and I have nothing against them, but I reckon you can get a far more useful setup using a tablet (android in my case) and buying apps to work on it. Mine has OziExplorer, ExploreOz Traveller app, tons of maps, IGO street nav, 50Gb of music, GAP diagnostics and of course it can do email, internet and anything else you want to go with. I went with a 10" screen to accommodate my fat fingers and dodgy eyes. Depending on your tablet, it all costs about the same and you don't have to take a laptop with you to do all those PC type tasks. Just a thought for those wanting a new setup or changing from something they are unhappy with. I'm available to give in depth advice on any of this if it's wanted.

Agree 100%. My Samsung Galaxy Note 8 sits in a Ram Mount and has HEMA Explorer loaded which has guided us to the Cape and back without missing a beat, or falling off. Power consumption is its main issue though.
