Do you have the exact fault codes available?
It appears I have a Primary turbo actuator fault on my 2010 3.0 D4.
Dealer is saying body off and probably replace turbo as the turbo and actuator is one unit??
I'm getting the "Restricted performance" message intermittently but mainly when towing. Seems to come on when coming over a hill, so when coming off load.
Dealer has checked vacuum lines and electrical connections.
Any advice or ideas on what else to check or do prior to replacing entire turbo?
(Concerned dealer mentality is just to replace units)
Thanks in advance for your advice or moral support!

SupporterI suggest taking it to Jorden Rovertech after the error has occurred an get them to have a look at the codes and the issues. They know about the turbo actuator problem (Graeme's post) and also have replaced my turbos with body on. There are many causes of restricted performance on 2010 D4's and mine has had several, which have been fixed by Rovertech, including cracked plastic manifolds and the actuator vacuum control valve issue.
The turbo replacement was not because of an actuator fault. They were noisy and when removed the compressor blades were badly bent on both turbos for reasons unknown.

Thanks for the replies.
I've pull the inner guard cover off.
The secondary turbo shut off valve looks very clean, but did feel gritty to move the valve.
I've sprayed some WD40 on the actuator arm and worked it, seems smoother,
Will take it for a run, but won't know for sure till Friday when I tow again as it's most common when towing.
If this fails will try Rovertech.
BTW I've tried another non dealer (LR specialist) in Perth but had a very bad experience hence back at the dealer. Can share details if people want to know about the "dodgy brothers!"

SubscriberIf it's truly the primary turbo (LHS), then the above shows how to view the actuator moving.

SupporterYou will find that it is moving most of the time or there would be immediate errors as soon as you drive. I had a leak in the vacuum hose between the control valve on the front right hand side of the car and the vacuum point, after the turbos were replaced, which resulted in a similar situation with restricted performance errors when accelerating after slowing down for a street junction. Once cleared, it was fine for another day until the same thing happened the next day or the next week. I suspected the actuator on the new turbo and contemplated trying to do the procedure in the earlier post to view it. However, it turned out to be the vacuum hose when it was checked again by Rovertech under the warranty for the turbo replacement and is now fixed.
