Thanks Tombie. I have a set of drawers sitting on top of them - so not much use carrying them around. D4 already weights too much ..... D4 empty ( but with usual tools, recovery gear etc ) with me and full tank of juice comes in at 3040kg. Hate to think of the weight if loaded for out back trip

I blame the steel rock sliders, steel bull bar and winch in part. Trouble is there are any kangaroos up near our farm - so not sure I would risk not having steel bull bar. Maybe rock sliders and winch I could have done without.

I attempted to weigh the 3rd row seats when temporarily removing my fathers set. It wasn't easy and so not 100% accurate but we were confident that the weight was more like 45kg and confident less than 50kg.

Agree, 3rd row are 45 kgs.
Also 2nd row are 25 + 20 +25 kgs =70 kgs total
So removing 2nd and 3rd row seats adds up to weight reduction of 115 kgs. (providing you dont need the seats) Also makes for a lot of space inside for stuff that SHMBO finds at the last moment.

I'm doing the exact same thing for our big trip, I'm ditching most of the imperial sockets in the 1/2" socket set, still need a couple for the trailer, the rest can be done with a shifter, I've taken a lot of things out of the drawers that are specific to trips without the trailer, I could easily put anything really heavy in the trailer but I don't want that, I'm culling weight because I want to be as light as I can to take load from the tow vehicle, we are doing 20,000 + ks so I want to make it easy on the car as much as I can, the trailer only adds 65kg over the ball, so no issues there, we don't have any cast iron cookware, it's all spun steel, the cook stand is steel though, but's only a kilo or so, third row seats are out, I might look at removing the 2nd as well for the trip also, never thought of that.

The second row seats are easier to remove than the third row.

I've removed the middle and passenger 2nd row already. As said very easy once folded forward, perfectly balanced. 4 bolts 1 person job really.

I took the 3rd row out of my Green D2 and just stored them in the back of the garage,,
When I went to inspect for a possible sale i found some pesky rodent had eaten all the internal padding,,
When I stored rows two and 3 from this silver one I bagged them up much better!

Removed the 3rd row and installed a drawer system. Removed the centre 2nd row set and found that my Engel 42l sits in there neat. Replaced the seat bolts with 10mm eye bolts and used some SS chain and turnbuckles to secure the fridge. So now have a 4 seater with the drawers and fridge as neutral for weight. I think LR must have designed the centre seat size to fit an Engel. (ha)

For extended trips I remove either of the remaining 2nd passenger seats as required. All easy to remove as previously mentioned.
