    Replacement battery for a D4

The Super Charge MF88HSS would be the equivalent to the Super Start SS88Ti, but costs more and has a much lower reserve capacity (160mins vs 220mins).

For non-stop start use, the SS88Ti also has a 36month warranty.

Which is odd because that's 72% but the actual C/20 capacity is 96%. There is also quite a big disparity in CCA until you read the SS88Ti data sheet to see the specced CCA @ -18C is 850A rather than the unqualified 1100A on the web page.

Frankly they're about the same weight, so the same amount of lead. I'd expect them to both be pretty close. If the SS88Ti is cheaper then it sounds like a win.

I would not be surprised if they are in fact the same battery from the same factory - so the cheaper one wins for me.

Yes the unqualified CCA means very little. Interestingly my cheap battery tester said it has at least 1300CCA (I won’t even attempt to qualify this result other than to say the Bosch battery I was replacing came in at 600CCA).

    New Cranking and Aux battery

    Hi

    Just resurrecting this thread (again)...

My optima aux battery has just failed, and needs replacing.
My main cranking battery is also slowly dying (Varta that was put in there to replace an Amaron that failed early). The Varta has lasted about 6years (really good!), but I'm not sure it's the best option now...

Based on this thread, I'm going to use:
    - Cranking - SSB SS88Ti - I think around $380 inc GST. Good capacity, 3yr warranty for my vehicle (not stop/start)
    - Aux - SSB HVT70LD - Around $275 inc GST. Larger than my yellow top, and have been advised (by Tim) not to go for the Optima's anymore. I need to make a minor mod to the battery tray and may need a longer +ve lead from the isolator to the terminal. But I get a larger capacity aux battery to run my fridge when needed...

Any comments, thoughts, or other advice on these battery choices?

    Thanks.

These two are flavour of the month / last few months.

The HVT is tight, but doable as others (and I have done). I’m running Varta G14 / SSB HVT..very pleased so far.

Yes, I'm in 2 minds. 6years is good life from the Varta. I've never had more than 3 from any other cranking battery in the D4.

Although I've just done some online searching, and the Varta G14 is EXPENSIVE! $629 on special in Autobarn...

I switched back to Varta last weekend - I got 5-6 years from my last Varta - only 2 1/2 from my SSB.

I got the Varta from Autobarn over the weekend for $539.

Was there a special on? So if I wait, I could get similar pricing? Or is it "who you know"?

Have ordered the SSB - but still in 2 minds... Geez, they're expensive!
