    Agree. My first diesel was a brand new VW T5 van and at night it was horrifying looking at the smoke behind. During the day you couldn't see anything. I soon learnt that it was normal.

    My 4.4's can be quite significant in daylight if I really stick the boot in, possibly worse for not booting it regularly, preferring to use the torque in higher gears most of the time.

    OP stated MY09, so could there be any overlap with the earlier, weaker housing in that MY?

    I have personally done several 08 where the housing was correct from new. I'm not sure of the VIN range exactly ( i remember thinking that it was late my08 build) however every 08 i get in i warn the customer that there is a possibility that the oil pump will get replaced but not 100% sure until i get it apart.

    Transmission Flush

    At those miles probably worth getting the transmission flushed and oil change if it has not been done.

    Mine is Sep 07 build MY08 and had original style oil pump housing which was changed.
