Thread: Burst Air Line Repair.

Hey Russ. Found them for $10 a pop at the local Pirtek. Will probably grab a couple and some spare pipe. Only problem is theres like 3 different pipe sizes

Pipe / Diameter
High pressure pipes / 6 mm
Compressor inlet pipe / 8 mm
Inlet filter to silencer / 8 mm
Compressor exhaust pipe / 10 mm
Silencer exhaust pipe / 19 mm

Is suppose the only ones likely to bust are the 6mm high pressure lines. Anyone heard of the other pipes failing?

The air-line connects the front valve block to the reservoir valve block. The reservoir would have emptied as the front was attempted to be levelled.

All fixed!

Bought two metal push fittings from Pirtek plus a foot of hose for $20

Used a razor blade to cut the busted bit of pipe out. With the first fitting fitted - i was hoping the fitting would make up for the inch of pipe i cut out, but no where near


I ended up cutting the hose so that the fittings were near the hose supports so they weren't bouncing about as much. And all finished:





Car seems to be working fine, hooray!

Good job. Were you able to confirm pressure and temperature rating at Pirtek for the fitting and hose?

The guy couldnt find the rating for the fittings but had tested one until 1600psi before the pipe burst. I had seen the plastic ones rated to 150psi, and i believe the ones graham uses are 1200psi rated so im comfortable that the metal ones would be right for 350psi+ (i think theyre more like 600-1200, but its just my opinion)

The hose in the "book" was rated at 1160psi but when i got home the hose actually had 2000kpa (290psi) stamped on it. Its in there now and I'll see how it goes.

Actual costs were about $10.50 per fitting and $2.10 per metre of hose.

Temperature range affects hose ratings so the different numbers could have a different basis.
