Speaking of pressures. On my recent Old Ghan, Central Oz and Channel country trip, I suspect I was doing similar weights. RWC, LRT, trailer etc running 285/60/18 D697s. Was using a TPMS and monitored temps more than anything. Ran the fronts much lower at 25 and the rear at 35 over rough dirt and the rears consistently still ran hotter, given the weight over the back axle. Was surprised at the difference I had to run.

What are you using to change the tyre if you get a flat Greg??

There is a tyre shop half way along the Gibb.

Fix-it Neville a sight for tired eyes | The West Australian

One of my acquaintances actually bought a tyre there. I don't know how much but beggars can't be choosers.
BTW AFAIK Imitji store is now closed for diesel . It was a great stop and they did a great coffee.

    Old Neville needs to franchise.
    Plenty of opportunities elsewhere.

I bought a set of trailer springs at that repair place. Prices were actually very comparable to Perth prices.

If Imintji is closed, that leaves a fairly long fuel run between Derby and Mt Barnett, especially with side trips into Bell Gorge and/or Mornington.

I just checked and looks like it has reopened.

I hope it is the original mangers as they were very nice people although older and both badly injured in a helicopter crash, which was the first trip of a tourist operation from the store several years ago.

I am travelling with Greg on the Gibb and also my son in his D1. He will have plenty of support in the unlikely event that he has a problem. We are hoping to take one of my 19 inch wheels with a tough tyre on it in the D1 for Greg, just in case. However, I've never needed more than one spare on any of our remote trips, even with road biased tyres on a couple of them.

There are workshops at Drysdale, Mt Barnett and El Questro, so if we really luck out, one of them will be able to change a tyre. And as Bob says, he's kindly bringing along another 19 inch spare for me.
