The butterfly is naturally in the open position. It closes to suck from the egr circuit when directed.
The butterfly disc is removed after blanking / deleting the egrs
Reviving this thread out of curiousity.
What would happen if you removed the butterfly disc without doing anything to the EGRs/mapping?
Surely it would massively reduce the amount of gunk coming from the EGRs????

No it wouldn't, it will still flow into the engine.

Yes I agree that it would still flow but if the butterfly is not closing it must be at a reduced rate?
