Specs sound good - bizarre that it should be in their brochure, but nothing on the website about it.
Looks like it is the High performance DIN model? So not specifically for 4WD, but rather the passenger car (tarmac) range - I wonder if the bumps and knocks of 4WD will kill it faster? Do they use thinner/fragile plates to increase CCA?
CCA is only one factor. That's cold cranking amps. You need to meet the car's requirement to make it capable of turning over the engine. The amp hour capacity is also extremely important. This is generally directly proportional to the physical size of the battery. 95Ah capacity means it can deliver 95amps for one hour, 45amps for 2 hours etc. This translates to how long your car will sit without going flat. This is important for a Disco as their electronics are forever turning on and off as the car is idle. Also, larger Amp hour capacity will see less stress on the battery as the voltage drop is less over time. If you put a 30 amp hour battery in, it would feel three times more stressed compared to Mr 95Ah (as a simple summary). More stress, less life.
There is no doubt the Varta is a great, reliable battery and will give the best life but you pay for it.
Last year I went the Supercharge - right RC, CCA and AH - sure it may not last as long as the Varta but at about $240 - $270 it is worth it. I have had a Super Charge the same as I now have in my RRS in my 101 since 2009 and it is still running fine so they do last though load demands in the RRS are a bit more than then 101.
Also when it starts to fail - just pop into a local battery shop and all done in about 10 minutes. No waiting for a Varta Battery to come in.

Well I'll be the guinea pig for this one, $218 seems too cheap to refuse with a 24mth warranty. ill post back if I experience any down side
The fast recharge rate of AGMs makes them much more suitable than non-AGMs for the smart charging of later LRs especially if only doing short runs.
The original Varta in my Defender lasted eight years, which was great, so I replaced it with an identical Varta through Battery World. There are a lot of different models and specs, so make sure you get it exactly right. For example, there were two apparently similar Vartas, but only one was totally right for the Defender. I imagine a D4 would have more electrical demands than a relatively simple Defender, making the right choice even more important.
Not wishing to hijack this thread, I'm looking at a new battery for my V6 PETROL.
I'm looking at a D34, as I don't think the petrol needs quite the ooomph of a diesel for starting.
Any comments - yes or no?
And I'll be fitting another D34 when I fit my Traxide system.
Racq just replaced my battery (MY12 SDV6 SE)with their own brand battery (AGM 850 CCA 95AH) for $370 fitted at my house. . Has nationwide warranty. Great service. I think NRMA RACV etc would have the same deal.Quote:
