Very nice installation. Can you tell me where you routed the power from? If you connected directly to the battery where did pass through the fire wall? Thank you.

Sorry for the late reply. I picked up power from the existing (unused) plug that would power the cooler cubby if installed. This power is always available straight from the battery without the need for ignition. I ran the aerial cable through a plug in the firewall but can’t remember if it was on the drivers side or passenger.
Attachment 169571Can’t remember exactly (grey possibly) but here is the relevant circuit diagram.
I opened up the cover under the steering wheel, then cable tied it to something pretty solid in the void under there. You can take a second layer of plastic off for better access (need to for getting to the grommit anyway). There is also a brake controller in there.
Doesn’t look neat, but it’s hidden, so who cares :-)
I did make sure to check that anything to do with the steering column is well clear.
I mounted mine same position but used one of the existing studs - welded up a bracket and all good.
I bought a GME XRS 370 to replace an Icom IC440S that the previous owner had had installed.
It took me nearly the whole weekend to work out where the old unit had been physically located in the D4.
It seemed to me that the 'logical' place to have installed the base would have been under either the driver or passenger seats .. but no .. I finally found it wedged between the firewall and the heater motor ... a very small area almost made for it .. above the front passengers feet.
I must say, I was expecting to find at least 'some' space under the dash to install the new unit, but was amazed that there is basically no space for ANYTHING ... at all.
I didn't mind the exercise too much as a found it a worthwhile learning experience to pull almost the entire dash apart as there may be a need to get in there in the future for some unknown reason.
I reckon if you poured a bucket of water into the top of the dash you'd be lucky to see any come out the bottom.
I put the new base in exactly the same position, picked up the same supply and pulled a drawer string through when removing the old antenna cable .. to pull the new cable back through.
Now to fit my Codan NGT HF unit ... which will be going under the drivers or passengers seat!
Antenna mount will be off the rear wheel carrier and I'm happy to provide pics if anyone is interested.
