Mounted mine under the lid of the centre console cubby. Fitted a connector to plug the mic into and used antenna mount from Labtronix (Aerial Bracket)
Has been 15 or so yrs since my last UHF radio, back then I had a remote head Uniden I think it was.
Had a quick look in at the local ARB and they have some nice looking small unit and one with everything on the mic, GME
Also where do people have their radio's mounted?
I don't have a bull bar and don't intend fitting one so my next concern is where how to mount the aerial, would a plate either side of the front bumber be supportive enough? Can a bracket be run through the grill?
Appreciate any advice, this vehicle 2012 D4 is not as simple as my D1's or 85 RR

Lots of good threads on uhf & aerial, here's a couple with plenty of ideas:

GME TX3340 install.
I have a bonnet mounted bracket for the aerial and a remote-head GME unit with controls on the mic.
Very happy with this setup and like that it is almost invisible when not required.

Thanks guys, I did go for a hunt through threads and found some info.
Was thinking of possible a folding aerial mount on the 1st rack mount in the roof otherwise the side bonnet bracket looks the easiest option.
I went with the GME XRS-320, with the remote unit mounted under the dash (very light, double sided tape did the job).
A pro clip (brodit) holds the handset. Can all be removed if wanted.
This is usually a shopping trolley, and I don't have (or want) a bullbar, so I made up an antenna mount for the roof. Coax runs underneath the roofrail, down the a-pillar and into the engine bay. Then through the firewall into the remote unit. Makes for awesome reception up that high!

That mount is the Brodit ProClip mentioned in the other threads (holdmyphone call it ClicOn) Angled Mount - 10-17 - Discovery 4 - Land Rover - Dashboard Mounts - Device Mounts | HoldMyPhone and yes, you mount the mic holder to the bracket.
You can get these for both sides from dsl developments - part numbers 654413 or 854413 Brodit Proclip Search | DSLDevelopments | Brodit UK
I put mine drivers side of the console but cut it in half :

Yep, as per David - the HoldmyPhone unit, with the standard supplied mount on it. I just used a spare 3M sticky pad from those removable hooks you can get at Bunnings.
The decision for mounting at the rear, well, I don't have the full length rails, so it would have been above the B pillar more or less, and i didn't really want that half-way look. I was also worried about possible noise/whistling at speed, and so wanted it a bit further away. Mounting at the back also meant the cable runs straight back, then one curve around to head forwards under the rail - in the middle would have needed an 'S curve, with much tighter radius. I liked not having to drill the metal rail too, so no potential rust issues.
Downside is the antenna can be at a bit more risk from low handing trees/branches, especially when the car if listing to one side on a tight track. I've been using a 'rubber ducky' style antenna in wooded areas, and haven't had any issues so far...

I've got a GME with remote head and have the main unit located next to my left leg held with a couple of Velcro strips against the side cover. Remote head is attached to the coin tray with 2 short bits of Meccano and bolts. I removed the front piece of the coin tray to do this and drilled a couple of small holes for the bolts.
Speaker and mic are on Brodits one either side of the central facia about level with the remote.
Aerial is above my head virtually and the cable goes down into the engine bay then through the door opening (doesn't get pinched) as the hole through the firewall was already used by cables for the dual battery system.
All works well and looks neat.
One of these fine days I'll hide the wires a bit better than I have.....
