    A question on engine oil

    Hi
just had my car serviced at a non LR dealer.

just looking at what was done and the oil they used was
    DIESEl 4W/30 HITEC DL1 - Castrol Equivilant.

not sure what the Castrol Equivilant means but when I look up the specs for the oil used it seems the HITEC oil is mainly for vehicles with a DPF.

    I have 2014 D4 TDV6 which does not have a DPF.

    Is is this a problem

    Thanks for any help

    Richard

Using a low SAPS (DPF) oil in a non-dpf car is fine. I'd be more concerned that the oil truly meets the specification - not simply that it's the same viscosity but the exact certification such a C4 etc. never have I been more paranoid with an engine than these with the number reported to have done the big end and lunched the motors. Not suggesting it's the oil but I don't risk it.

It meets the ford spec wss-m2c934-b specs which are correct for your engine , I wouldn't be concerned.

I don't know much about oil specs so please excuse

    My car specs are M2C913-C

it is the DPF version that has M2C934-B spec which is what the oil used i.e. HITEC DL1

i am a bit paranoid, my previous car had a DPF and at one service they put in the wrong oil. Luckily I checked that night. They then changed it to the right oil and kindly charged me for difference as the oil was more expensive. It was the last time I went to them.

So not sure if the oil used does meet the specs or the difference between the two mentioned

I wander if it is a typo error in my handbook

it says to use the 913 spec if no DPF and if a DPF use 934 spec for diesel v6.

    A question on engine oil

You are correct, however the 934 is fine, it's just more expensive than 913. The engines are identical, dpf aside, and only the dpf needs protecting. 913 oil will damage a dpf however 934 won't hurt a non-dpf car. So you can't go wrong with 934 in either, but 913 can only be used in non-dpf cars. Clear as mud?
    Summary. You're fine.

No , not a typo , it is correct , its OK to use either, , as DiscoJeffster mentioned it's OK to use this in a non dpf car , not the other way round, send a pm to rick 130 on this forum if still in doubt

    Thanks to all

i have been hunting the web for that very info.

As mentioned I had the other way around in a car with a DPF. I picked it up because the price of the oil was a lot less than I expected so started looking closer and found out they had put the wrong oil in.

in my hunting I believe I have just found a statement saying that the ACEA B5 spec is covered In M2C934-B.

    Many thanks again
