Can't help, sorry.
But, first world problem, eh?
So we have traveled down to the snow for a break and bought dvd's for the trip to keep the little one entertained in the back
The movies start for 10mins then the screens appear with "DVD error" but the sound is still playing.
Any ideas?

Haha yeah but when you tell the mrs "it's got a great distraction for the kids" and then it doesn't work, guess who has egg on their face![]()
I don't have technical expertise to solve your problem but the following comes to mind.
I presume that you've tried a few dvd's.
Are they original or copies? If copies, that may be why.
Do the work in the front when you're stationary? If they do, that may point to a source of the problem somewhere perhaps.
Do you have a diagnostic tool? Not sure whether it would show up errors for this but worth a look.

Mine failed the other day much to my daughters dismay. My problem is a "mecha error" though and it appears the player is not loading the DVDs. When I have some time I'll pull it out and have a look at it.
Your problem does sound a bit like something is wrong with formatting as the sound is playing.

So I have tried 4 brand new DVDs that are genuine.
Yes they work for about 5 mins then the error appears.
A thought - old laptops can get dusty in their cooling systems, eventually leading to overheating.
Is there a fan in the head unit of these things that might need cleaning out? A few blasts of compressed air might work wonders?
