In the case of selecting P before coming to a complete rest I reckon you'd break this before too long. Only hire car gearboxes have this capability apparently.

SupporterI would think it was more common in the Land Rover EPB world that the brake shoes will lock up on you and cause you all sorts of grief you weren't really wanting at the time.
When I was taught to drive the hand brake was for hill starts (and later I found out about the turning capabilities) a low gear was selected for parking purposes, less chance of a hot sticky shoe adhering to the drum if left for too long.
It has been about 27 years and several cars (all automatics in that time) but I have never had park gear (pawl) break, touch wood and head, but I think the whole hand brake thing is a learned thing, my wife certainly does use her hand brake all the time, and it gets me every time I try to move her car.........

SubscriberWell yes, in that case you've hit the nail on the head as to how it would be quite easy to break I assume. That makes me shudder, but so does the passing through reverse on the way to park whilst in forward travel. All these things are evil and should remain the things only the clueless would engage in.
