    eBay scan tools

Does anyone have any good feed back on the budget scan tools available on eBay.
I have looked at a few on YouTube and they seem to do the trick. I am just looking for a tool to identify any codes that may flag up and allow me to clear them.
    Any advice is always welcome.

Most if not all of the cheap ones on Ebay will only allow you to view the fault, not clear it. many also do not work with Land Rover engines even though they say they will. I would be looking at a Nanocom or something similar, not cheap but will do what you want.

They are useless to be frank. I have one I use for my mum’s Golf. I used it on the Disco and it couldn’t see anything of use compared to my IIDTool. Not only that, it will not understand or see the other 18+ ECUs the car has, or the codes. If you want to reset codes cheap, disconnect the battery if all else fails and save yourself the $25 on those tools for a Disco.

If you just want to read and clear faults, nothing more, then a Faultmate FCR will do the job - about a third of the price of the IID Tools etc but will only read and clear faults.

I have one of those "Engine Data Scans" from 4WD supercentre that are supposed to clear codes.
I haven't tried to clear any yet ( I can't drive the bloody thing) But it does make a great extra gauge for things like engine coolant temp voltage etc.

if the cheap ones were of any use I guess we would see them mentioned here. I tried 2 different ebay cheapies and they were useless.

If its possible that you will be doing something in future that will normally cost money if you dont have a working diagnostic tool then maybe its not hard to justify the extra expense for a GAP IID Tool or Faultmate or whatever.

I used my GAP IID Tool to re-program the suspension brain when I replaced the compressor with the AMK model. And recently to recalibrate the suspension after changing control arms, and then to put the suspension in Tight Tolerance Mode for the wheel alignment. All of those actions would have cost money and extra time/hassle, so its paid for itself by now.

    costs involved

Faultmate is on ebay $548 with free delivery from Cyprus
Ex UK iid tool $830 incl delivery for blue tooth version on ebay.
Would seem the iid tool is a little more $$$ but probably worth that little extra.

Wow! I didnt pay that for it. Got it direct from one of the Landrover suppliers. Maybe thats what they cost now, everywhere.

edit: paid $660 delivered for Bluetooth version early 2015, from LRDirect in UK. Still same price from Island 4x4 UK.

Yeah, same here. I contacted Dan Roberts of Duckworth Landrover (Dan.Roberts@Duckworth.co.uk) and mentioned he had been suggested by the AULRO forum and I paid GBP350 which converted to AUD$593.31. That was end of March this year.
