    V8 burble

    Hi all,
Been a very happy D2 TD5 owner for the last 7 years, but have just started shopping around for a D3 to tow the caravan and for family holidays. Had a look at 2 V8s yesterday, 2005/2006 vintage, and the difference between the two was interesting. One had quite a noticeable V8 burble, and seemed quite quick off the mark, while the other was significantly quieter, and while it still drove well and had noticeable pull even up hills, didn't seem quite as touchy on the accelerator as the first one.

Is it possible the first has had some sort of modification to the engine or the exhaust, resulting in more power, or perhaps the second one is not in tip top condition?

Well, to answer my own question, I just spoke to the current owner and they tell me that a part of the exhaust system has been removed. Is this going to cause any issues?

Quite. You might enjoy winding all the windows down and driving it more vigorously.

I'll have to learn to deal with this one, probably through frequent practice.

The current owner wasn't really sure which bit was missing. I did see a diagram somewhere of the D3 V8 exhaust system with the various bits and pieces.

there is a chance it wasn't removed (which is illagal) but it was swapped for a high flow cat (which is legal)

Traditionally the first bit to need replacement (and therefore gets "lost" first) is the final resonator box near the back bumper. No biggie.
