We were really poor and couldn't afford stethoscopes much less store them in our home in the scrape in the road in which we lived. (Apologies to Monty Python etc)

I have a similar sound from mine but only when warm. Any luck finding the source?

We didn't live anywhere really, we just huddled under umbrella.

I had the same noise. Just had the belt tensioner replaced along with a new belt. Noise now gone!

    Was your's intermittent Scomac?
Mine seems to be there only once it's warmed up. I'm leaning more toward lifters than the pulley...

    Hi Martin

Not intermittent, you could here it straight away from start up. I think if yours was a bearing you would be able to pin point it.

There are some youtube vids of d3/4 tappet noise I came across which might help. They're hydraulic as you probably know, so if they're noisy (like every Mitsubishi ever made), if an oil change doesn't help, they will have to be tolerated, or replaced at great expense.
