Thread: LLAMS Calibration

Axle-pairing can be technically slightly better than without but in practice you're not likely to spot any difference. The digital representation of the voltage difference between normal and off-road height for a sensor is in the hundreds whereas left to right differences are usually less than 10 - rather insignificant.

If fitting to a D4 then the module should already be calibrated for a D4 with axle-pairing set and low=20mm but if wanting low=35mm then it will have to be calibrated. If for a MY05-06 D3 then best to use the inbuilt default calibrations for these model years but for MY07-09 the module will have to be calibrated.

Hey just a quick one, I am just about to order the LLAMS kit for my D4 and just want to know does the factory height adjustment button still work once it is installed? or do you have to use the Llams height selector?

Just fitted LLAMS the other day to my D4. Worked as advertised with no need to calibrate. I had disconnected the battery and on start up no error codes were registered on the Nanocom. As far as the D4 is concerned, it doesn't even know the LLAMS is there!
Just a word of warning, though. If you have, say, left the LLAMS on in extended mode and shut the vehicle down (for example, you're fitting a long range tank and made use of the extra clearance) be careful when shutting up shop for the night. Although the car is happily sleeping, LLAMS is still wide awake, displaying a red light. If you turn it off, five seconds later the car will lower to the D4 selected height. Just make sure you have removed your trolley jack from under the car. Just made it!

Sorry, meant to address this in my post above. Yes, the factory system works as per usual. It is not even aware LLAMS is fitted. LLAMS allows you to alter the setting dynamically (after you have made your factory selection). I expect to only use it in the following circumstances:
1. D4 Normal, freeway cruising, LLAMS to -20 to reduce drag
2. D4 High, sandy track allows safe low range cruising above lowering speed, D4 to Normal LLAMS at medium raised (+30)
3. D4 High, river crossing, LLAMS to medium raised (+30) or extended depending on surface
4. D4 Access, to help 99yo aunt into car, LLAMS -20

I'm sure I'll find other uses. It certainly helps with working under the car, but note my warning above!
