I wouldn't attach ANYTHING to those number plate mounts that are available. Guaranteed to break and fall off - they are cheap rubbish.

There is an auto sparky place near Barbagallo's who makes / sells some very nice brackets (pretty sure they're stainless steel) that attach to the radiator mounts and protrude through the bottom of the grille - but they are not cheap. There's a couple of people who have posted these on here. They look good, and are suitable for small driving lights or an LED bar. Very simple to make something similar yourself and save a lot of money if you have a few tools and some basic metal working skills.

To mount a UHF aerial - there are bonnet mount options (I personally wouldn't go this way) plus some very good options to mount in the "tracks" on the roof of your D4. A few good posts on these on here if you search for them. You only need a short aerial if it is mounted on the roof - this is the way that I would go if I didn't have a bull bar.

Totally agree, the number plate option... isn't an option really, I just came across them and thought maybe?
I have seen the brackets that mount onto the radiator and they do work very well, they come in at around $300 which seems a bit steep but the guys that have them swear by them.
So in sort I just need to spend the money and get the right brackets as if I go cheap I will regret it in the long run. I don't want to go the Roo/Bull bar route as I just don't like the look of them on the Discovery.

I have a short aerial mounted on the flat Rhino rack on the roof and get very good reception. For extra lights I'll have them on a bull bar which will be fitted next week.
Only hit a roo once and that was a little thing when I was driving a Datsun 1600 years ago but you never know, so although I'd rather not ruin it's pretty face, a bar it's going to have.

Fair enough. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Personally, I reckon a D4 looks "naked" WITHOUT a decent bullbar.

Those brackets do look good and solid from the pics I've seen posted by others on here - it's just that I couldn't bring myself to pay that much money for them when I have the gear in my shed etc and could make something very similar for a fraction of the cost.
    Cheers .........
