Angry Disco 4 MY16 - unbearable creaking noises... CONSTANTLY

Hi all, Im sure many have experienced some minor creaking from the console in Disco 4 considering the amount of plastic... however this is unbearable.

The car has been to LR 4 times for this issue and still not fixed. every time they tell me its been fully taken apart, insulated and fixed. In truth there hasnt been any improvement at all.

I am now at a point where I need to escalate this... but dont know the best approach. the car is under warranty as it is 2yrs old... although from the sounds it makes you would mistake it for a 15yr Ford Falcon that has been used and beaten like a taxi, rather than a 100k off roader.

I think the guys at LR are starting to ignore me since I have made several complaints now with nobody returning calls.
I love my car, but I cannot deal with this amount of creaking. I am honestly thinking about replacing it if I cant get this fixed.

the creaking is coming from the centre console or the cup holder area and is triggered simply by motion. Accelerate... it creaks. Deceleration causes the same.. turning... you get the point.

Please, if anybody has suggestions on the best process to escalate this (to whom and how) then let me know. The last time it was at LR service to have this fixed they had it for 4 days and it was managed by the Service Manager.... so whats the next step.

Appreciate the help and apologies for the rant.

Are you mechanically minded, if so take the centre console out and see if the creak stops. It may be the centre bearing which is just under the console hence why I say remove it and go for a drive

I had the same with mine for a while, I’m sure it was coming from the seat belt connector, can’t remember doing anything specific but it’s defintely gone now. It was sending me mad too!

Try harder to find the specific area making the noise, perhaps have someone else drive while you put your ear to the consol?

You may have to try another dealer,or contact LR directly.

I won't harp on,only to say the quality of the workmanship from them has been done to death on here

I know its a nuisance and frustrating, but you need to keep on to them or before you know it,warranty will have ended.

Yep,try another dealer. My local dealer on Sunshine Coast tells me that they service quite a number of Brisbane vehicles because they provide excellent customer service. I have had a number of warranty claims including creaking dash and no arguments. The vehicle was not bought from them. Paul and Chris care.

yes and no... im afraid to make it worse off if thats possible. it does sound like plastic on plastic rubbing... and it sounds like its coming from the cup holder area... but if I take the cup holders out it still makes the noise.

I bought the car from Sunny Coast... but its a 1.5hr drive that I just can make the time to squeeze into my day... I'd basically have to take the day off. Then they would probably need the car for a few days. but maybe ots what I have to do.

Is there a LR direct service complaint email/avenue? website just says contact your local dealer.

Get someone else to drive and using a stethoscope try to locate the rough area of the creak then spray some silicone into the area. I had a small creak in my dash when new and this fixed it. If anything it worth a try and simple to do.

Could also be the gearbox mounts or something else under the floor.

I had the creaky dash and console issue after 2 years.
Servicing dealer on the Sunshine Coast. Vehicle purchased from the Gold Coast dealer via a broker.
First up, they squirted a little silicone spray around. Made no difference.
Second time they had the car for 4 or 5 days - i had a Discovery Sport loaner - I believe they pulled out all the dash and console and reinstalled with an anti rattle kit from LR.
This seems to have the issue 99% sorted. I’m happy enough, and the Harmon Kardon drowns out any residual creaks.
I too have found Paul and Chris decent fellows.

Had a service once at the Brisbane dealer - never again.

Vehicle now serviced by MR at Redcliffe - very happy with their work.
