    Used discovery

The 130 defender has retired to camping trips only so looking to replace the car with a late model discovery but not the current model. What model and motor would best suit my needs as I am interested fuel economy and reliability. Interested in any tips

Disco 1 300 Tdi (only half joking!)

Depends on the budget, but any of the Discos are pretty good on fuel if you don't load them up and add lots of wind-grabbers. A nice TDV6 D3 with appropriate service history, would be okay.

I wanted reliability and economy for camping and desert travel, so a 300 Tdi suits me down to the ground. Not into high speed running (luckily!) or towing much more than a camper trailer occasionally.

I have just bought a really cheap TD5 Disco 2 for the missus (to replace the P38A), but I'm still titivating it up, so I don't know for sure what the economy and reliability will be like, yet!

I just upgraded (comfort wise) from a Td5 110 to a discovery 3 tdv6. It’s a very nice car to drive, the air suspension is tops and it’s good off-road too.

I've got a 300Tdi 110 for rough / boys trips, but now with the kids getting taller I opted for a Disco to tow a camper for the less rugged journeys.

I already had a 2003 TD5 HSE, but in reality, I would always choose the 110 over it.

I recently purchased a 2013 SDV6 HSE which is a rocket. Not to mention it's so quiet and fuel efficient. The D2a around town was 13l/100km, the D4 is 10.5/100. On the highway the D2a was 10/100 and the D4 7/100.

I'm supposed to sell the D2a, but I'm tempted to keep it for the kids. When I bought the D4 I went with a mate in a D3 to get it (500km away). The D3 was a quiet, smooth car, but after driving the D4, the D3 feels like a tractor. My wife didn't think there was anything wrong with the D2a, but after 2 days of driving the D4, she thought the D2a was a rough and noisy car.

If you can afford an 8 speed D4, then that will be the easiest thing to live with, but your heart will still beat for the Defender.
