See if polypropylene strap will slip in and move some coins
G’day folks,
I’ve been using the ashtray in my 2013 D4 to store coins and seems that the coins have moved around and caused the ashtray to jam shut. Any advice on how to get in and free it up?
Cheers
Simon

Mine did the same and I knocked it a few times to shake the coins and it would then open.

I never considered this was an ashtray. I keep some business cards in it. I assume we're talking about the slide out tray / small drawer that comes out from the consol just above the TRS.
If that is an 'ash tray' can you take it out, to empty it. Pretty sure mine has some rubber matting inside, so not ideal for ash.
It’s not an ash tray, it’s a coin / oddments tray.
Sounds like a good reason to go 4wding and shake the crap out of it![]()

Old terms die hard.... Ashtray.... Glovebox...... Map pockets.... Snorkle.
Now we have.. Coin tray..... Compartments to hide crap in.....Somewhere in the door for the screwdriver...... Raised air intake ( because it leaks). But in the end we all seem to understand what we mean.
I might buy a pair of gloves and chuck 'em in the glovebox for some giggles
Happy Easter everyone!
Hehe!
Except they’re not old terms... the D2 has a coin tray and ash tray.
I have a pair of Buck skin work gloves in my glove box.
There are maps in my map pocket!
And there are Snorkels AND Raised Air Intakes both available.
Well since there are two cigarette lighter ports (woops, sorry, I mean 12 volt accessory adapters) just underneath it I assumed it was originally designed as an ashtray??? And you can take it out (at least I have I the past) as long as it’s not jammed! In any case I’ve been trying to bump/shake/bash it loose but no luck. I’ll get some strap next to see how it goes. I’m afraid I’m from a generation where cig lighters and ashtrays were standard in cars. As were tape players and CD players (that funny slot in the dash for you youngsters). So whether it’s an ashtray or coin storage sliding compartment doesn’t make any difference if I can’t open it. :-)
