    Creaky suspension

    Dear All,
We have been having a creaking noise coming from the drivers side rear suspension for a few months now. It is intermittent but there for most of the time. It happens with most up and down movement and almost always when the car levels itself after a drive. Putting it into off road height usually clears it whilst at that height and can sometimes clear it for the rest of the drive even if put back to normal height. We’ve had rear upper and lower control arms replaced but neither has solved the issue. Although it did seem to go away for a few days after the lowers were replaced. This has cost a fair bit of money and although the arms were probably ready for a change anyway it’s pretty disappointing that we were advised to change them but it hasn’t sorted the problem. I’m thinking that the only other thing that could cause it would be the damper. I would be grateful for opinions on this or whether there is anything else it could be. At 175k the dampers are overdue a change anyway, but I need to make sure that it is going to sort out the creak.
    Cheers,
    Andy

Possibly sway bar mounts to the frame.

We had similar issue with suspension creaking. It was most noticeable when parking the vehicle and it settling on the suspension, although could be heard at other times. New main front and rear sway bar ‘D’ bushings fixed it.

Thanks guys, are the rear d bushes the same the front or a different spec? We had the fronts changed to super pro about a year ago. 2010 3.0 TDV6 by the way

We also used Superpro for the sway bars, but used OEM for the control arms. The rear sway bar bushings are far easier to change than the front ones due to greater access.

Part numbers are different for front and rear and are dependent on diameter of the sway bar:
