OBrien's price to RACT for genuine was 1380 bucks...and RACT would not cover this amount even tho it is not much more than the after market unit price of 1058.48 bucks.

Bit disappointing but nothing surprising as insurance co's worldwide are adopting preference to cheaper Chinese glass.

On that front there are 2 Chinese makers: XYG and Fugao or FY. XYG is the lower value brand used by OBriens. FY actually make glass for some European car makers...mainly side glass tho. Indies tend to go with FY as they reckon it better matches original specs.

I asked for a cash settlement and will pursue genuine when it arrives. Should be able to better Obriens price I reckon😎

The basic principal behind insurance used to be to put the insured back into a position the same as but not better than the position they were in before the claimable incident occurred.
Then the banks bought many of the insurance companies.....

I have a feeling that FY are the suppliers for the ‘All New Discovery’ glass, including the windscreen.

I’ve had new glass on my D4 in the first year.

Insurance were advised that I expected the replacement to meet OEM spec. The replacement and immediately went Genuine, as the Chinese units don’t match up at the time.

I have need for a new unit to remove the chipped one now; that’s been approved for Genuine also.

    I’m with Shannon’s for reference.

Good outcome...it pays to shop around.

Question: how much is the installer charging Shannons...do you know?

BTW I mentioned your price of the gen windscreen to the Novus guy to which he said...geez...no way ...they are waaay more expensive than that...

He quoted 750 for the FY version.

I'm yet to find out the actual gen price locally....maybe today hopefully if I can get someone other than OB's interested in actually fitting one!!😐

Mmm...dealer price to me on gen windscreen is 1082.95 bucks😐

Not sure how EBay can sell them for 406...but that's pick up.

Dealer also has no stock ..possibly weeks to get one they said.

Dang the rise and rise of China!

So as we are keeping the car I'm going with the 500 buck China jobby..banking the 500 difference from RACT and will get gen next time I can claim and b 4 we sell it.

Luke assures me everything will be fine and dandy🙄

I've been in contact with my insurer and the screen replacement people and a new rain sensor is being fitted next week. Apart from the first moan about them wanting to fit a non genuine replacement everything has gone well.

New screen fitted and done in good time at the installers premises. But a few weeks on and with the first rain for ages the rain sensor doesn't work. You can see where it's peeling off the screen so maybe they didn't clean the new glass properly.
Anyway, the insurer arranges them to fit a replacement sensor...... I was given a date 3 weeks away. I complained and that was brought back to yesterday, Wednesday, between 0800 and 1200 hrs. No show or phone call by 1300 so I called them...... no contact with on road repairer team on 2 phones carried by them, my number left by their office for them to call.
No call by 1400 so up the pub I went after yet more chat with installers office.
Given a new time of between 1200 and 1600 today. Got a call about 1300 hrs. "I've broken my wrist and can't be there but am trying to arrange for someone to come with me sometime tomorrow"!
I rang his office and they said that he had definitely broken his wrist and could they book some time some time in the future....
I rang the insurer who expressed disappointment but said that it couldn't be done by anyone else as I requested as it was now a warranty fix by the screen installer.
However, they would speak to the manager and get him to contact me which he did. Much chatter about the woes people have to put up with such as Prado owners since 2016 having 17 variations in screen...... and other vehicles screens not being available in Australia for months and a few other anecdotes to make me feel happier.
Anyway, instead of being given a 4 hour slot when it may get fixed I've got an actual time......
Now I'll wait a while tomorrow and see what transpires...... maybe his assistant will break their wrist tonight.

OMG sure you don't have the same surname as me?

I'm now waiting another 2 weeks for another Fuyao (FY) screen after the one ordered was scratched. Only 4 in Aus atm and installer is looking at major supply issues for all glass as China is shut down. Same for house glass he said. LR dealer was no help with a gen screen and I was advisrd to avoid XYG..the other China screen.

Cadogan's reference to ****sville is becoming a reality😐
