Further update.
Spoke with Luke..and indy ...who did a D4 today...no dramas he said..just take care with clips and sensors and all good.
500 his price for the acoustic after market screen with auto defog/humidity sensor.
So there are different thicknesses he said and the scoustic screen is as thick as the original..the others are not..and so are noisy.
Another issue is the auto de fog/humidity sensor unit.. a small black box to the driver's side adjacent to the mirror...make sure they replace it with the right screen...some just re fix it to a cheaper screen without the auto de fog function. Owners don't know in most cases.
Velly interesting indeed...
I recently had my screen replaced here in WA and my insurer wanted to use the after market one as my vehicle was a couple of months out of warranty. Bloody cheek and I told them so as I use them for all my insurances.
Following that an OME screen got fitted at no cost to me except for the 100 buck excess.
However, the first rains for a very long time have just happened and the sensor doesn't seem to be working correctly. I'll ring them tomorrow (installers) and see what the response is before lodging a complaint with the insurer.
AlanH.
Do you have s Gap II Tool? If so you can re calibrate the rain sensor otherwise it will need to go to stealer😐
The installer would or should know this.
The other possibility is that the rain sensor unit has not been attached correctly. According to our dealer there's a gel pack that's supposed to be used to adhere the unit correctly. Of course no one uses it and instead uses silicone which can interfere with the units effectiveness esp if there's bubbles in the silicone.
Na...Hobart..but sort of part of Vic for most aspects of living here!
Auto Glass Wharehouse appears to be the main supplier of aftermarket glass.
Retail price is around 250 bucks. I bought a 1983 Rodeo driver's door window off them and the service and price was v good.
I guess that's why the smaller installers can do the job for 500 bucks.
Not sure why O'Briens charges 1k given they allegedly have 80% of the market in Aus.
In years gone by when I’ve enquired about a replacement windscreen I’ve always been given 2 prices.
Cash will be $xxx
Insurance will be $xxx doubled
I’m sure it’s a rort!
