    Windscreen Replacement

I rang an indie LR guy that I know and he said that the Pilkington aftermarket screen is fine, just doesn't have the LR label. I also rang Landrover Toowoomba and they told me they use Obriens to fit their screens. So I then rang Obriens and spoke to the local manager and he seemed to know about the problems, so all should be well.
    We'll see on Friday.
Thanks for all of the information.

Oh dear, the saga continues. Windscreen replaced in timely fashion but I noticed dirty marks down the passenger side A pillar so asked them to clean it, which they did. But, I could still see scratches on the cover and went back and made yet another complaint.
OK they investigated and said they'd order another cover and as it was ex Sydney it would take a week to get here. Cover arrived and we fixed yesterday as the day to replace it. Keys handed over and told it'd be about 15 mins. After approx 20 mins manager pops up and says "Bit of a problem, we can't find your new moulding.... maybe someone's had a tidy up and moved it".
Off he trots and I wait a while longer before he pops up again and most apologetically advises that "Moulding can't be found, we think someone has thrown it out as junk"! "Probably one of the HiLux hooligans they employ" me thinks quietly.
Off I go and await yet another call which came today and another new part is on it's way......

PS. I almost forgot..... daughter driving up the freeway back to civilisation from the deep south in heavy rain and the nearside wiper nearly fell off. She panicked and wanted to stop but I told her to keep driving as there's nothing more dangerous than Perth roads, especially the freeways when it's raining.
Back home out came the sockets etc and I repositioned it back onto the spigot and tightened it up properly. Drivers side was OK. Not a happy experience with O'Briens at all.

    Resurrecting this thread yet again.
I now have a badly cracked windscreen and have made a claim with my insurer RACV. They have offered two approved repairers, Windscreens O’Brien or Instant Windscreens.
Does anyone have any up to date experience with these companies please? I am in Lilydale east of Melbourne so local info would really help.
    cheers

I have a new Defender - and had a new windscreen fitted last Saturday (24/09) by Windscreens Obrien in Epping.

Looks like an original LR part - has LR branding on it.

They had to recalibrate the vehicle due to the sensors in the windscreen.

    3 hours all up.

    Very good service.

    Hi,

I have had several windscreens in the Disco 3 and 4 replaced over the years (they seem to be stone magnets) and the last few times has been by Windscreens Obrien in Ringwood. They have been fine. One thing I always do when booking it in is tell them that rain sensing wipers are fitted and they need to use a genuine screen or one that is guaranteed to work with the wipers. They seem to understand that issue and if warned are fine.

I have found that taking it to the depot seems to be better service that the fit at home options.

    Hope this helps.

I planned to get it done at home but am happy to take it to Ringwood. Could you be more specific about the difference you’ve observed please.

    cheers

I had one done at home and they did not have enough of the replacement clips for the side covers where as at the main centre the fit and fixing seemed better.

Just my experience with them, it should not really matter.

Obriens replaced my screen last year.
I very specifically mentioned if the a trims were damaged to let me know.

They broke them, didn’t tell me… Windscreen replacementWindscreen replacement

Tried to glue them together resulting in rattles and a bloody leak!

I now need a new windscreen - it won’t be going back there and I will fit the brand new trims myself after the glass is fitted.

The same mob in Darwin did mine last month without an issue on 16 year old trims.

I had mine replaced by O'Briens in Toowoomba last year. After reading about the trims rattling on this Forum, I specifically asked about the clips used to replace them, and was told "Yes, our clips are the same as OEM" End result was vibrating trims at 90 to 100 kph. I ended up having to make 2 trips back into Toowoomba to get it rectified.
They did tell me that there was a lifetime guarantee on their work, so in that case I'd be making sure that this was lived up to.
I think that you have a better chance of good workmanship in a workshop than by a mobile fitter on site. Not denigrating mobile guys, but just having a better range of bits and pieces at hand if needed.
    Good Luck
